Back to the Beginning

It All Started With an Apple

Hi there! Γειά σας!

Welcome to my little corner of this site where I’ll be sharing thoughts, tips, and various tidbits that come to mind!

It only seemed fitting that for my first post, I share the story of how My Little Greek Book got its start in June 2025.

I had been freelancing part-time as a graphic designer for clients based across the US & UK while also caring for our toddler. Even though work was technically “part-time”, managing the timelines for project-based work was becoming tricky on an every-other-day schedule. Not to mention that creatively, I was starting to feel a bit unfulfilled.

So, I started to think about creative outlets and different ways I could inject some more joy into my work.

Then one day, out of the blue, I had a very specific idea for an apple illustration pop into my head. That single idea spiraled into a concept for a series of fruit images, which eventually turned into an idea for a first words book…but in Greek!

If you’re a Greek parent living in the US like me, you’ve probably found that quality Greek children’s books have been surprisingly hard to come by outside of Greece, so this idea felt like a natural way to fill a void that my own family was experiencing.

Once I had the concept for our first book, My Little Greek Book of Food, I knew I wanted to create something that was accessible to families in every sense. Not just easy to order online, but welcoming to all kinds of families and caregivers, whether their Greek was fluent, rusty, or nonexistent. It was very important to me to include English and phonetics to make sure that every member of every family could share in our books, not just families who were all fluent in Greek.

And of course, as a designer, I couldn’t ignore the visuals! So many children’s language books are impersonal—they’re translated into dozens of languages using mismatched stock photos, and I knew I wanted to create something intentional and cohesive that truly valued design.

I got to work on creating My Little Greek Book of Food, and immediately had ideas for a whole collection of books including: My Little Greek Book of the Alphabet, and My Little Greek Book of Vehicles, our first board book. (I also have plans for a handful of other titles that are already in the works!)

At its core, My Little Greek Book has always been about making it easier and more approachable for families to incorporate a little Greek into everyday life, without pressure or perfection.

Thanks so much for being here & sharing this exciting, and unexpected journey together! I can’t wait to see what the future brings!
